Kendra Rumbaugh received her B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1996. She then attended graduate school at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) in Lubbock, where her doctoral work focused on the role of quorum sensing in the pathogenesis of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. After receiving her Ph.D. in medical microbiology in 2001 she did postdoctoral training at the University of California at San Francisco. She eventually returned to Lubbock, where she is now a tenured Professor in the Department of Surgery, with joint appointments in Depts. of Cell Biology and Biochemistry and Immunology and Molecular Microbiology. Dr. Rumbaugh’s research focuses on understanding and treating wound infections, and she is especially interested in how biofilms, polymicrobial interactions and cell-to-cell signalling contribute to infection. Dr. Rumbaugh’s research has been consistently funded over the last 14 yrs, receiving grants from NIH, American Diabetes Assoc., American Lung Assoc., DoD and Industry. She has co-authored over 70 papers and book chapters, edited 3 books and served on study sections for over 15 different organizations, including the NIH, NSF, VA, American Diabetes Association and several military agencies. She has also served as a reviewer for over 35 different journals including Science, Nature and PNAS and has been invited to write editorials and commentaries for Nature and PNAS. Dr. Rumbaugh has served on organizing committees or as a session chair for several different National and International Conferences and has given invited seminars all over the world.
